Executive CAAP West Term Two – Curriculum Outline

Time Period: September 2012 - April 2013

Course logistics:

  • Term Two runs over 4 weekend sessions (11 days total) split between Calgary and Edmonton.
  • Location: In Calgary: SAIT Polytechnic.
    In Edmonton: Grant MacEwan University.
  • Session Schedule: Friday 3pm-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 9am-3pm.
  • Session fees include meals and refreshments. Students are responsible for all travel and accommodation costs.

Evaluation Approach:

  • Real-world case assignments.
  • Applied learning and advisory support.

Weekend 1: Designing Communications Solutions

  • Learn about design and application of branding strategy (narrative, character and community planning).
  • Build skill in developing creative channel ideas that enable deeper brand/consumer interaction and engagement.
  • Dates: September 28-30, 2012
  • Timing: Fri. 3pm-9pm, Sat. 9am-5pm, Sun. 9am-3pm
  • Location: Edmonton, Grant MacEwan University

Weekend 2: Delivering Communications Solution2

  • Explore the 360° media channel landscape (Paid/Earned and Owned channels) and build perspective on integrated planning.
  • Build integrated communications plans reflecting business objectives, consumer connection and branding intentions.
  • Dates: November 16-18, 2012
  • Timing: Fri. 3pm-9pm, Sat. 9am-5pm, Sun. 9am-3pm
  • Location: Calgary, SAIT Polytechnic

Weekend 3: Orchestrating Communications Solutions

  • Deep dive case work to explore three key skills of orchestration planning.
  • Understand how to translate communications strategy into tangible ideas and orchestrated channel plans.
  • Review media channel planning best practices and proven case examples.
  • Dates: March 1-3, 2013
  • Timing: Fri. 3pm-9pm, Sat. 9am-5pm, Sun. 9am-3pm
  • Location: Edmonton, Grant MacEwan University

Weekend 4: Applied Project Completion – Innovation Pitch

  • Leverage the total course learning in a pitch for a uniquely designed business innovation including launch communication plan.
  • Work with an instructional advisor over the total term to hone your team’s approach and validate your solution.
  • Experience the business pitch dynamic by presenting to a select panel of industry leaders.
  • Dates: April 26-27, 2013
  • Timing: Fri. 3pm-9pm, Sat. 9am-5pm
  • Location: TBD - either Calgary/Edmonton
