CAAP instructors are all current communications practitioners and experienced educators. Each instructor has been carefully chosen to inspire learning in their area of expertise and to bring real-world insight into the classroom. Your learning will extend beyond the classroom as you interact with instructors and peers online in CAAP’s private collaborative environment. The online environment is an exciting new addition to CAAP because it will enable students to actively participate in stimulating their own learning.
Maurice is VP, Strategic Insight at Quarry Integrated Communications where he leads the agency's customer insight team. He specializes in strategic communications planning, branding, and the development of innovative qualitative research methods. His twenty-plus years of planning, consultancy and research experience includes engagements for Merck, Eli Lilly, Upjohn (now Pharmacia), Colgate-Palmolive, Maple Leaf Foods, Disney, Sprint, FedEx, BASF, Budget Car Rentals, BDO, and Nortel.
David runs his own brand consultancy, Strategic Initiatives Group. He has a twenty-plus year track record in communications and is passionate about branding, innovative business planning and building effective teamwork dynamics. David is a skilled facilitator and has lead the development of numerous North American brand strategies and new products in a wide range of business sectors including healthcare, telecommunications, automotive and packaged goods.
For over 25 years, Leslie Ehm has been working with ideas and audiences – as a performer, Creative Director, ideation specialist and corporate trainer. As Group Creative Director at Maclaren McCann (MMDI) her clients included Nestle, GM, Rogers, and McNeil among others. As co-founder of Canada’s first training company designed to train ad agencies (27 Marbles), she became the go-to trainer for creative people. She now runs Three Training, which is devoted to training agencies and marketers in ideation, collaboration and presentation skills.
Brian is an advertising veteran with over 25 years of experience. Previously at Ogilvy & Mather, he is now Managing Director at Mindshare Canada, heading one of Canada’s largest direct and digital media agencies. While Brian leads the direct response/digital group, he has deep experience in all areas of marketing -consumer and business-to-business, traditional brand advertising, account management, direct response media, direct marketing/mail, and all forms of interactive/online marketing; his breadth across all disciplines supports a philosophy that emphasizes truly integrated communication planning. Over the years he has managed the media product on a wide variety of blue chip accounts, including American Express, AIG Assurance, AT&T, Campbell’s Soup, Cisco, Duracell, Ford, GlaxoSmithkline, IBM, KFC, Kimberly-Clark, IKEA, Kodak, Lavalife, Lenovo, Jaguar, Mattel/ Fisher-Price, Midas, SAP, Seagrams, and Unilever.
Lynn is EVP, Chief Strategy Officer at BBDO Toronto. She has built her strategic credentials with strong U.K., European, and U.S. planning experience at senior levels. Lynn's twenty-plus year career has included Vickers & Benson Arnold in Canada as Chief Strategic Officer and Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide (in Toronto, London, and New York), where she was a Strategic Planning Partner. Her client experience includes RJR-Nabisco, Seagram's, American Express, Unilever, BMO and the Canadian Federal government.
Adrianne is a VP, Senior Planner at BBDO Toronto. Throughout her career, she has spent time in account management and creative services before following her passion to become a Planner. Her client experience has run the gamut of B2B, technology, retail and packaged goods. She currently works with brands such as Frito Lay (Lay’s, Doritos, Tostitos), Mars (M&Ms, Mars, Snickers), Cara Foods (Swiss Chalet, milestones, Harvey’s) and Johnson & Johnson. While working as an Account Director and VP Group Account Director at MacLaren McCann, she led the consumer brands for Microsoft Canada (Xbox, MSN) as well as mass advertising for Microsoft’s B2B lines of business. She also holds a Masters degree in Communications and Culture from York University.
David is one of the few creative directors in Canada with experience in all agency disciplines: media, account management and creative. David spent 20 + years at large Toronto and Vancouver agencies, including Anderson Advertising and TBWA\Vancouver before starting his own agency, Hyphen Communications, in 2004. His creative work includes campaigns for Sunlight, Cadbury, Labatt's Breweries, President's Choice, National Money Mart, Alesse, Vancouver Grizzlies and the successful bid for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. David has been the recipient of numerous international advertising awards, including four golds at the CASSIES and is a Director of the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) West.
Joan got irreversibly fired up for the ad business in the U.S. where she went from Group Head at Scali, McCabe, Sloves in New York to Executive Creative Director at Wells, Rich, Greene and Ogilvy and Mather, both in Los Angeles. Her credits include the first advertising campaign for Microsoft, and the longest running ad campaign in Canada, with comedian Thom Sharpe, for Goodyear Tires. Joan has taught at both Humber College and the Ontario College of Art and Design and in the U.S at the New School in New York, as well as heading up Strategy Magazine’s quarterly Round Table. She is founder and President of Joan McArthur Training & Consulting Inc.
Julie is a hands-on media strategist who is passionate about the power of communications to build stronger brands and businesses. As Senior Vice President, General Manager of Zenith Optimedia, Julie has built an impressive career over the last 20+ years with leading brands such as CIBC, Nestlé, General Mills, Purolator, Canada Post, Purina, KIA and Wal-Mart.Recently acknowledged for her leadership in the industry (Strategy Magazine's "Generation Next", Sept. 2006), Julie has been described as a big thinker and someone who "has got client innovation and servicing to the core."
Richard Toker runs Rich Content, a marketing communications consultancy focused on customer lifecycle management and communications. Richard is a true integration specialist offering a breadth and depth of experience from over 20 years in marketing. Prior to starting Rich Content he was Director, Direct and Interactive Marketing Communications at Rogers Wireless. In addition, Richard brings a number of years experience and insight in consumer and B2B marketing from agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather, McCann Erickson, Cossette and Bimm. Over the years he's learned that achieving the proper balance between brand association and direct response is crucial. Richard is a thought leader in the industry, influencing education approaches at both the ICA and CMA, where he teaches the Direct Marketing Certificate program.
Jack runs his own public relations and communications consultancy, PRJack. He is well versed in marketing and communications, including media-relations, brand recognition and awareness building, crisis communications, e-marketing and media training. Jack is accomplished at creating targeted messaging and making complex concepts understandable to broad audiences. He has directed and run successful PR campaigns for a broad client base in North America including Hewlett-Packard.
